My Nutritional Therapy Toolbox: The MRT Food Sensitivity Test

Been burned by food sensitivity testing before?

I get it.

Not all food sensitivity testing is created equal. 

When I start working with a new client, one of the first things I do is select which tools from my NTP toolbox will help us get the clearest picture of what’s going on inside their body.

Because here’s the truth: gut healing isn’t one-size-fits-all.

Your symptoms, lifestyle, stress levels, and health history are totally unique, and the plan we create for you needs to be just as unique.

That’s why I use specific tools, like functional tests, to take the guesswork out of what’s contributing to your symptoms and get you on the path to real, lasting relief.

One of my favorites is the MRT Food Sensitivity Test.

The MRT looks at how your body reacts to 170 different foods and food chemicals.

It shows us which ones may be quietly triggering inflammation behind the scenes.

You might have heard of other food sensitivity tests like IgG panels, and you might have even tried one before.

Here’s why I don’t rely on IgG testing in my practice:

IgG tests measure whether your body has made antibodies in response to certain foods, which tells us that you’ve been exposed to those foods.

It doesn’t tell us whether your body is actively reacting to them in a way that’s causing symptoms.

A food you eat all the time might show up on an IgG panel, even if it’s not contributing to any current inflammation or issues.

The MRT is different because it looks at how your immune system actually responds to a food in real time.

It measures the release of chemical messengers, called mediators, from your white blood cells. 

These mediators are what trigger inflammation in the body, which can lead to symptoms like bloating, fatigue, brain fog, skin issues, and more.

In other words, the MRT shows us which foods are currently creating an inflammatory response, not just which foods your immune system has seen before.

Once I have your MRT results, I use them to build a customized food plan that gives your body a break from the top inflammatory triggers.

We temporarily remove those foods to create a window of opportunity for healing.

A window of time where inflammation calms down and your gut has a chance to repair and rebalance.

Then, after we’ve done the foundational work, we reintroduce foods in a strategic and supportive way.

The goal is never long-term restriction.

It’s about creating an environment where your body can do what it’s designed to do: heal.

We use this test as a tool in the nutritional therapy toolbox to guide that process.

Here’s what I love most about the MRT:

  • It has a 93.6% reproducibility rate, which means it’s highly reliable.

  • It helps us simplify a very complex situation by translating immune reactivity into real-life food decisions.

  • It saves you time, energy, money, and frustration by taking the guesswork out of the equation.

  • It tests for food chemicals (the only one on the market that I know of that does).
